History
We are very excited that what began in South Africa as the Disciple Bible Academy (DBA) is now the Ministry Training Academy (MTA)! The renaming was to bring ourselves in alignment with the worldwide MTA program. This program runs simultaneously to Bible academies within our family of churches around the world.
The Teachers Service Team of the International Churches of Christ has set forth a consistent curriculum so that our ministers and lay persons alike, are being educated with common material. Since our first class in 2011, all twelve (CORE) classes have been completed and we have close on 20 students who have successfully passed MTA (CORE) 1.0. In September 2017, we began MTA 2.0 (CORE) to repeat the cycle of classes making up our core curriculum.

The Academy Purpose
At this point, we are running two classes a year in Johannesburg South Africa. One takes place around April and the other in September. Each course requires reading before class begins with a summary/reflection paper, sixteen hours of class time, and a final paper/project or exam. Full participation is compulsory for Full Students. There has been great excitement in Southern Africa with the inception of this academy and a high demand for spots in the classroom.
As these classes are interactive, class participation is mandatory for staff and full students. Prospective students interested in just attending class can audit the sessions at a discounted price. They will however not have access to the teacher(s) for grading purposes. Costs for each class will vary depending on teacher availability. Students will be responsible for obtaining their own textbooks. Books will be chosen that are widely available in hard copy and electronic format.
Additional readings may be assigned by the instructor via PDF postings on the Ministry Training Academy website. Costs will cover teaching materials, meals and snacks during class time, and other related expenses to run the academy. Registration for a Full student is currently R 1200 and an Audit student R 800 for each class. The cost will increase, when we need to bring in teachers. We believe this to be a monumental time in the Southern African churches to dig into God’s word together.
